Roy Woods- Insider/Outsider Journey of the ARTIST

Roy Lindsay Woods graduated from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1972. His paintings, sculptures, and mixed media pieces aim to guide the viewer to reach a new awareness of color and space. Often incorporating primitive motifs and strong brushstrokes, Roy's work is non-traditional, soulful, and expressive of his life experiences.

With a background in construction, Roy often uses construction materials and processes to develop his art. Roy utilizes “found” objects, sourcing aluminum cans, shredded paper, broken glass and ceramics, scrap wood, and metal. Producing art from his studio since 1975 in locations where there was little or no art influence, Roy has helped to bring awareness to the arts and artists in forgotten areas of his hometown of Gastonia.

For volunteering time to his neighborhood and town teaching and organizing outreach programs for children and adults, Roy was recognized as a distinguished alumnus of The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1990 and 1991.

Roy is active in the Gaston County arts community and welcomes visitors to his studio: Creations by Roy Lindsay, located at 729 East Garrison Blvd, Gastonia N.C. 28054.
