Letter to Margaret A. Holland and Children

This is Sunday but there is no Sunday here you can se every thing that is bad going on here you can hear Oaths without number Se men playing cards ball marbles baste and almost every thing that is wicked in the Eyes of God it dos Look like the men in the army is geting worse there was two men in our regiment fell out playing cards today and walked over the Gard Line and took a regular Fight and they ware both put in the Gardhouse my intentions is to gard against them as much as posible for we are wicked anuf here and Sin anuf at best we have preaching hear by the Methodist and Camelites but the Soldiers dont Seem to take much interest in what they Say the most of the Preachers tuch on the war prety Strong and you no I dont believe much in war preaching Oh that we could get home So wecould go to preaching and take our dear little children withe us to hear hoo we please no one nows what priviledges we once enjoyed only them that has tryed it by being tore from home and them that is near and dear to them Oh that some more could feel what I have felt I think they would turn their ways before it is everlastingly two late just to hear men hear talking of loved ones at and expresing their feeling about being parted from Fathers Mothers Brothers Sisters Wifes and Children not considering the dangers and Fateage of camp life dear Wife I will have to stop writing for I could fill a quire of paper on Such Subjects as we have before us at this time I want you to excuse this bad composed letter and remember that you have one that is near and Dear to you in a far distance from you Farewell M.L. Holland to M. A. H. and children  

Oh that I could se you all and I could tell you more than I could write on all the paper I could get
